The Simple No.1 Step to Getting What You Want

Jack’s Trick
Jack Nichlaus is widely regarded as the greatest golfer of all time. He still holds the world record for golf titles, winning a staggering 18 Majors in his dominant 25 year career.

So what was the secret to Jack’s success? Well, we all know that sport is 90% psychology. Jack revealed the following information about what his mind went through before every shot he ever took

‘I never hit a shot, not even in practice, without having a very sharp, in-focus picture of it in my head. First I see the ball where I want it to finish, nice and white and sitting up high on the bright green grass. Then the scene quickly changes, and I see the ball going there: its path, trajectory, and shape, even its behavior on landing. Then there is a sort of fade-out, and the next scene shows me making the kind of swing that will turn the previous images into reality.’

A similar approach has been described by:

Muhammed Ali – who always emphasised the importance of visualising himself victorious before any boxing match “If my mind can conceive it, and my heart can believe it – then I can achieve it”

Jim Carey – I’d go up every night, sit on Mulholland Drive, look out at the city, stretch out my arms, and say, “Everybody wants to work with me. I’m a really good actor. I have all kinds of great movie offers.” I’d just repeat these things over and over, literally convincing myself that I had a couple of movies lined up. I’d drive down that hill, ready to take the world on, going, “Movie offers are out there for me, I just don’t hear them yet.” It was like total affirmations, antidotes to the stuff that stems from family background.

Michael Jordan: “Every time I feel tired while I am exercising and training, I close my eyes to see that picture, to see that list with my name. This usually motivates me to work again.”

Switch on Your Success Brain Instantly
When we make a clear, defined picture of the exact goal that we want in our heads we flick the switch and give fuel to the part of our brain called the Reticular Activating System (The RAS). The RAS is The Success Brain – it latches onto a goal and keeps searching and striving towards it finding every opportunity to pull in resources from your environment to match and support the fulfilment of that goal.

Imagine you concentrate on a friend’s Honda Accord for the first time. Until then you saw Honda Accords but you never registered them . Now that you have focused on it once, suddenly ….you see Honda Accords all over the place because your RAS has been switched on.

Goals or Problems
In life you can either have goals or problems but you can never have neither. Once you set clear defined goals for yourself the problems becomes challenges on the way to those goals. The RAS/The Universe/God – whatever your belief system the truth is SOMETHING gives you more energy to complete the job and complete it with more precision. Harvard university found that when candidates were asked to visualise a task before doing it they completed it with nearly 100% accuracy whereas those who did not visualise it achieved an accuracy of only 55% on average.

Define Your Life or Someone Else Will
If you don’t define your life someone else will do it for you – could be a parent, partner, child, friend, nemesis or an expert marketing professional who hooks you with an advert that distracts you from what you were doing on the internet in the first place. In future blogs and vlogs I will describe to you in precise detail how to plan your day/year/life so that you are setting the sail on your own ship. Suffice it to say in the mean time that the more that you create a clear vision of what you want the less vulnerable you will be to massive distraction which is the biggest challenge of our age.

In general it takes people around 11 minutes to hit a sweet spot of creative genius and productivity with any project. The issue is we are being distracted on average every 3 minutes by texts/updates etc. By honing the picture of your goals for each day, week, month and year in your mind you will be far more able to say no to distractions because you have a ‘WHY’/ a big enough reason to say no. Now you are in a position to hit the sweet spot of powerful focused and meaningful progress in every minute of your precious day.

I learn more from you than you do from me. Please comment below.
